LATE POLICY

Set the AED up so it is ready to make a life-saving difference in an emergency. Here’s a step-by-step guide How to set up a Philips HeartStart OnSite AED, including answers to common questions.

Step-by-Step Setup Guide for Philips HeartStart OnSite AED

  • Unbox and Inspect the AED and its pads and battery

    • Open the box and verify that all parts are present. You should find the AED unit, a battery, and a set of pads. Some models may also include a carrying case.
    • Inspect each part for any visible damage and confirm the pads have not been opened. 
    • If anything looks amiss, contact the manufacturer immediately.
  • Pull the Green Activation Tab on the face of the AED – this will start up the AED

    • Open the red AED case
    • Locate the green activation tab that pokes out from between the bottom of the AED and the case of the AED.
    • Pull out the green activation tab. It will fully come out with a bit of a pull. 
    • This action will start a self-test to confirm the AED is operational. Your AED will check itself every day!
    • The pads and battery are installed in the AED already and will be ready to use. 
  • Run a Self-Test

    • When the green activation tab is pulled, the AED will run a self-test.
    • Follow the voice instructions to complete this test. The AED will inform you when the AED is ready for use.
  • Place the AED in an Accessible Location

    • The AED should be stored in an easy-to-access, visible location, such as a wall-mounted AED cabinet
